Resistive vs Capacitive Touchscreens: How do they cope with water?

Resistive vs Capacitive Touchscreens: How suitable are they for Military applications?

There is a lot of secrecy in the defence industry, and often it is for good measure as you don’t want potentially sensitive information getting out into the wider world where it can be used to cause damage or bring about harm.

However, when it comes to reasons why we use certain components when building our Laptops, Tablets and Processors we want to be as open and as upfront as possible. Our aim is to be crystal clear about why we choose the components we do and what benefit they bring to the overall quality of our devices. To help our customers understand our ‘why’, we have compiled a number of videos showing the features and characteristics of our products and how they compare to other options that are available.

A lot of thought goes into the design process behind every GRiD product. Every component that makes up one of our devices is chosen with robustness in mind from the materials used for the chassis, the environmental seals and the in-house designed electronics. This all helps ensure that we are supplying the best possible solutions to our customers no matter what the project requirement is.

One of the vital parts of our Laptops and Tablets is the Touchscreen Display. The Touchscreen is more often than not the primary input device and needs to keep working no matter what environment you are operating in. That’s why we opt for Resistive Touchscreen Technology rather than using the more common capacitive version seen on a lot of commercial Touchscreen Devices.

To show the difference between our Resistive Touchscreen and the more common capacitive options, we put both through a couple of tests. The GRiD products we used were the GRiDCASE 2507, a 7″ Tablet with a 10-Point MultiTouch Resistive Touchscreen and the GRiDCASE 1510, a 5.6″ Laptop with Resistive Touchscreen and aluminium chassis sealed to IP68.
